SaveAct has a vision of using technological advancements and access to markets to build an improved “ecosystem” with financial and other services designed around the needs of Savings Groups and, more generally, the rural poor who continue to be largely excluded from the dominant development path as victims of South Africa’s so-called “dual economy”.

Savings and Credit Group Methodology


Members of the community self-select voluntarily to form a group and save money in the form of share purchases. Savings are invested in the loan fund, from which members can borrow and repay with a service charge/ interest. Loans can be used to start small businesses (farming enterprises, tuck shops, etc), building or renovating homes, paying school fees, food, etc.
