SaveAct’s Anton Krone was invited to be a “thought leader” at the KZN Economic Round Table Summit held at the ICC in Durban on 24 February 2017. The SaveAct director participated in a panel discussing relevant strategies to facilitate economic inclusion in KwaZulu-Natal. The panel included Sihle Zikalala, KZN MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs as well as representatives from labour, business and civil society. The discussion was broadcast live on SAFM and other radio stations and is to be televised on CNBC Africa on 2 March.

The gift of independence
When Germany-based political activist Angela Mai was introduced to SaveAct in 2007, the concept of savings and credit groups made ‘huge sense’, resonating with her belief, born of many years in development work, in the importance of giving people greater control over their own lives. Learning Opportunity: Sustainable Microfinance and Development Program South Africa
The UNH Carsey School of Public Policy in partnership with VSL Associates and Save-Act will offer the Sustainable Microfinance and Development Program South Africa, a special two-week workshop devoted to Savings Groups in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. It will take place from March 27 to April 27. Scholarship applications close on 17 February 2017, while general applications close on March 6.
Groups share testimonies at Siyakhula-Sonke celebration
A number of SaveAct-led savings and credit groups had an opportunity to share their inspiring testimonies from the past year during the annual thanksgiving celebration hosted by SaveAct partner organisation Siyakhula Sonke in early December 2016. Despite the rainy weather, there was a definite sense of celebration and achievement at the event held in the Pinetown Methodist Church.
