SaveAct is building a multi-stakeholder, partner-driven programme for southern Africa. It has been tested and refined over 20 years. Our approach has proven impact in providing opportunities for women and youth to advance their wellbeing, agency and livelihoods.

There is massive demand for our savings methodology especially from rural women. We have successfully integrated financial literacy, life pathway development, micro-enterprise development and agroecology into the programme. Over 110 000 members contribute R600m (USD37m) pa towards investment in livelihoods and their social security. 92% are women.

SaveAct has the goal of scaling its programme with partners to reach two million people over 10 years, equipping them with the tools to develop their livelihoods and acquire resilience to climate shocks.
To co-lead this initiative SaveAct is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as Strategic Fundraiser and Comms Specialist. The candidate will play an important role in contributing to our team strengthening, internal systems and processes as we build for scale and develop market-informed approaches attractive to partners. We are looking for a talented person who will work with the team to develop our plans and innovations. They will be called upon to present these in meetings with stakeholders using visually effective and high quality written forms. This person should be: reflective, analytical, and well versed in data analysis. Proposal writing and presentations for fund raising are critical to this role as are facilitation skills for team and partner-based collaborations. A second local language would be an advantage.

 

Objectives:

  • Support the development and execution of high-impact fundraising and communications strategies that support SaveAct’s vision to scale through partnerships and reach two million people over 10 years.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and management team to position SaveAct’s model, impact, and innovation in ways that attract and retain funders, partners, and supporters.
  • Generate compelling proposals, reports, presentations, and communications that clearly articulate SaveAct’s value proposition to diverse audiences.
  • Strengthen and support the organisation’s brand and visibility by producing strategic content, messaging, and stories of impact across platforms and formats.
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with donors, partners, and networks, and support the organisation’s participation in relevant forums and opportunities for influence.
  • Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative and learning-oriented culture internally and externally, enhancing SaveAct’s reputation as a leading facilitator of financial inclusion and resilience.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Co-develop, write, and package high-quality donor proposals, grant applications, and concept notes aligned with SaveAct’s strategy and priorities.
  • Support the ED to maintain a clear fundraising pipeline, identifying new opportunities and managing donor reporting requirements and relationships.
  • Develop SaveAct’s communications strategy and core materials such as annual reports, impact stories, presentations, donor briefs, and website content.
  • Work with programme teams to generate compelling and accurate content based on data, outcomes, and community voices.
  • Manage the development and implementation of fundraising campaigns and donor engagement initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, philanthropic organisations, and strategic stakeholders; support the ED and team in donor engagement and presentations.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging and branding across all external communications and platforms.
  • Monitor sector trends and funding landscapes to identify positioning opportunities for SaveAct’s work.
  • Support internal communications, team learning, and collaboration across the organisation as needed to enable integrated fundraising and communications efforts.

 

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Three to five years of experience in a relevant or related field of work
  • Leadership experience in non-profit or development sectors
  • Strong teambuilding skills with high personal integrity and determination
  • Ability to interpret complex contracts related to scopes of work, and develop and track plans that fulfil them
  • Excellent proposal writing skills and abilities to detail a vision for change matched to timeframes, resources and costs
  • Fundraising experience in fields such as gender, youth, justice, innovative programmes, livelihoods
  • Experience working across stakeholders, including donors, NGOs, government, and private sector actors
  • Solid communication and facilitation skills
  • In-depth experience with Excel and MS Office systems for multi-year planning and budgeting/forecasting
  • Ability to swiftly diagnose problems, anticipate potential challenges and develop or co-create responses.
