To achieve long-term sustainability, savings and enterprise groups need to be able to access goods and services at reasonable prices — often in deep rural areas. The Zis’Ukhanyo programme incorporates KumFama, a project which oversees the bulk-buying and sale to members of agricultural inputs, and uKhaya, an entity that facilitates the reselling by SG members of a range of home products identified by communities as having social, economic and environmental value.
These include solar lamps, energy-efficient stoves and health and hygiene products for women. It is also considering ways of enabling access to thermally efficient housing materials and products.
